At a glance
The Alexandria hiking trail is a 32km, two-day circular walking trail, which starts from the Langebos Huts at the trail bus. The Woody Cape overnight hut is situated at the end of the first days hike (approximately 18.5km). The hike is not guided, but is well signposted and walkers must carry their own provisions and equipment.
The Woody Cape overnight hut consists of two bedrooms and is equipped with 12 beds with mattresses. Guests need to provide their own bedding. The kitchen is equipped with a two-plate gas cooker, crockery and cutlery. There is a Rain Water tank for drinking and cooking water, but there are no showers.
The dune system is ever-changing and dynamic with sand being continually blown in. Bird life is prolific in this section of the park with about 220 species recorded, while the area is also home to the rare tree dassie which can be heard calling at night.
In addition to being the largest and least degraded coastal dune field in the southern hemisphere, the area offers visitors a unique experience of solitude, infinity and freedom.
